About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Gefrin CV Tablet contains Cefuroxime 500mg and Clavulanic Acid 125mg, combining a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with a beta-lactamase inhibitor to provide broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. Cefuroxime acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death, while Clavulanic Acid inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria, thereby enhancing the efficacy of Cefuroxime against beta-lactamase-producing strains. Gefrin CV is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections (such as bronchitis, pneumonia), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and sinusitis caused by susceptible organisms. The combination is effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including strains resistant to other beta-lactam antibiotics. Dosage and duration of therapy should be determined based on the severity and type of infection, patient age, and renal function. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal discomfort. Hypersensitivity reactions, though rare, may occur in patients with penicillin or cephalosporin allergy. Caution is advised in patients with hepatic or renal impairment. Gefrin CV Tablet should be used under medical supervision to ensure appropriate use and to minimize the development of antibiotic resistance.
