About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Gatican Eye Drop contains Gatifloxacin 0.3% w/v, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections of the eye. It is effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. Gatican Eye Drop is primarily used in the management of bacterial conjunctivitis, keratitis, and other superficial ocular infections caused by susceptible strains. The formulation ensures rapid penetration into ocular tissues, providing effective antimicrobial activity with minimal systemic absorption. It is generally well tolerated, with adverse effects being mild and transient, including ocular irritation, burning sensation, or dryness. Gatican Eye Drop should be administered as prescribed, typically one to two drops instilled into the affected eye(s) every two to four hours initially, followed by a reduced frequency as the infection resolves. It is important to complete the full course of therapy to prevent the development of resistance. Caution is advised in patients with hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones. Gatican Eye Drop is contraindicated in viral, fungal, or mycobacterial infections of the eye. Proper hygiene and handling are essential to avoid contamination of the dropper tip.

About Gatifloxacin
Gatifloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat bacterial conjunctivitis, an infection of the outer membrane of the eye. It is effective against a wide range of bacteria and works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are essential for bacterial growth and replication. Gatifloxacin is administered as eye drops to target the infection directly. In summary, Gatifloxacin effectively treats bacterial eye infections.
How It Works
