Gastoclav 625 Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Amoxycillin 500 mg and Clavulanic Acid 125 mg, designed to combat a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. Amoxycillin, a beta-lactam antibiotic, inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. However, some bacteria produce beta-lactamase enzymes that inactivate amoxycillin, rendering it ineffective. Clavulanic Acid acts as a beta-lactamase inhibitor, protecting amoxycillin from enzymatic degradation and thereby extending its antibacterial spectrum. Gastoclav 625 is indicated for the treatment of various infections caused by susceptible organisms, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and otitis media. The combination is effective against beta-lactamase producing strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Haemophilus influenzae, and Escherichia coli, among others. It is administered orally, with dosage and duration tailored to the severity and type of infection. Caution is advised in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to penicillins or cephalosporins.
