About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Zufifix 200 Tablet DT contains Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 mg, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic effective against a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. It is indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and uncomplicated gonorrhea caused by susceptible strains of bacteria. Cefpodoxime Proxetil acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death, thereby exhibiting bactericidal activity. The tablet is designed as a dispersible form, facilitating ease of administration, especially in patients with swallowing difficulties. Zufifix 200 is well absorbed orally and undergoes hydrolysis to its active form, cefpodoxime, which achieves therapeutic concentrations in various tissues and fluids. It is generally well tolerated; however, adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain, as well as hypersensitivity reactions in susceptible individuals. Caution is advised in patients with a history of penicillin or cephalosporin allergy. Dose adjustments may be necessary in renal impairment. The use of Zufifix 200 should be guided by susceptibility testing to minimize the development of resistance. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cefpodoxime or other cephalosporins.
