Linezolid exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the 23S ribosomal RNA of the 50S subunit, thereby preventing the formation of the initiation complex essential for bacterial translation. Enzolid 600 is primarily used in the management of complicated skin and soft tissue infections, nosocomial and community-acquired pneumonia, and infections caused by susceptible strains of bacteria where alternative treatments are limited or ineffective. The tablet should be administered orally, with or without food, as prescribed by a healthcare professional, typically twice daily for a duration determined by the severity and type of infection. Caution is advised in patients with a history of myelosuppression, as Linezolid may cause hematologic adverse effects such as thrombocytopenia, anemia, and leukopenia, especially with prolonged use. Additionally, Linezolid is a reversible, non-selective monoamine oxidase inhibitor; therefore, concurrent use with serotonergic or adrenergic agents requires careful monitoring to avoid serotonin syndrome or hypertensive reactions.
