Ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, essential enzymes for DNA replication and transcription, thereby preventing bacterial cell division and growth. Ornidazole, a nitroimidazole derivative, is effective against anaerobic bacteria and protozoa by disrupting DNA synthesis and causing cell death. This synergistic combination is particularly useful in managing mixed infections involving both aerobic and anaerobic organisms, including respiratory tract infections, gastrointestinal infections, genitourinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and certain sexually transmitted infections.
