Zolofi Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Ofloxacin 200 mg and Ornidazole 500 mg, designed for the treatment of mixed bacterial and protozoal infections. Ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, exhibits broad-spectrum activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, thereby preventing bacterial replication and transcription. Ornidazole, a nitroimidazole derivative, is effective against anaerobic bacteria and protozoa by disrupting DNA synthesis and causing cell death. This synergistic combination is particularly useful in managing infections such as gastrointestinal infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, amoebiasis, trichomoniasis, and mixed anaerobic infections. Zolofi Tablet is indicated when both aerobic and anaerobic pathogens are suspected or confirmed. It is administered orally, with dosage and duration tailored according to the severity and type of infection, as well as patient-specific factors. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, dizziness, and hypersensitivity reactions. Caution is advised in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones or nitroimidazoles, as well as in those with hepatic or renal impairment.
