Xtclav 625 Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Amoxycillin 500 mg and Clavulanic Acid 125 mg, designed to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. Amoxycillin, a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic, acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. However, certain bacteria produce beta-lactamase enzymes that inactivate amoxycillin, rendering it ineffective. Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, protects amoxycillin from enzymatic degradation, thereby extending its spectrum of activity against beta-lactamase-producing organisms. Xtclav 625 is indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, otitis media, sinusitis, and dental infections caused by susceptible strains. The combination is effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including resistant strains. Dosage and duration of therapy should be determined based on the severity and type of infection, as well as patient-specific factors. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort. Hypersensitivity reactions are possible, particularly in patients with a history of penicillin allergy. Caution is advised in patients with hepatic or renal impairment.
