Ozomet-PG 2 Tablet ER is a combination oral antidiabetic medication containing Glimepiride 2mg, Metformin 500mg, and Pioglitazone 15mg, formulated for extended release to provide sustained glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea, stimulates pancreatic beta-cell insulin secretion, thereby reducing blood glucose levels. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily decreases hepatic glucose production and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity, contributing to enhanced glucose uptake and utilization. Pioglitazone, a thiazolidinedione, acts as an insulin sensitizer by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ), improving insulin resistance in adipose tissue, muscle, and the liver. The combination therapy targets multiple pathophysiological defects in type 2 diabetes, offering improved glycemic control compared to monotherapy.
