Oxicef 200 DT Tablet contains Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 mg, a third-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic effective against a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. It is indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections, including bronchitis, pneumonia, and sinusitis; urinary tract infections; skin and soft tissue infections; and uncomplicated gonorrhea. Cefpodoxime Proxetil acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death, thereby exerting a bactericidal effect. The tablet is designed for rapid disintegration, facilitating ease of administration and improved patient compliance, particularly in pediatric and geriatric populations. Oxicef 200 DT is well absorbed orally and achieves therapeutic concentrations in various tissues and fluids. It is generally well tolerated, with adverse effects being mild and infrequent, including gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal discomfort. Caution is advised in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillins. Dosage adjustments may be necessary in patients with renal impairment. Oxicef 200 DT should be used under medical supervision, and the full prescribed course must be completed to prevent the development of antibiotic resistance. It is contraindicated in viral infections where antibiotics are ineffective.
