Oxi-DX Tablet SR is a sustained-release oral antibiotic formulation containing Cefixime 200 mg and Dicloxacillin 500 mg, designed for the effective treatment of a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. Cefixime, a third-generation cephalosporin, exhibits potent bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, primarily targeting Gram-negative organisms, including Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, and Proteus species. Dicloxacillin, a beta-lactamase-resistant penicillin, provides robust activity against penicillinase-producing Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, including methicillin-sensitive strains. The combination of these two antibiotics offers synergistic coverage against mixed infections caused by both Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens. Oxi-DX Tablet SR is indicated for respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and other susceptible bacterial infections. The sustained-release formulation ensures prolonged therapeutic plasma concentrations, enhancing patient compliance by reducing dosing frequency. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins, penicillins, or any component of the formulation. Caution is advised in patients with a history of hypersensitivity reactions to beta-lactam antibiotics. Adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, hypersensitivity reactions, and, rarely, hematologic abnormalities.
