Opilox 500 Tablet contains Ciprofloxacin 500 mg, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic effective against a wide range of gram-negative and gram-positive bacterial infections. Ciprofloxacin acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, leading to bacterial cell death. Opilox 500 is indicated for the treatment of urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections including bronchitis and pneumonia, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, intra-abdominal infections, and certain sexually transmitted infections. It is also used for the management of infectious diarrhea and typhoid fever caused by susceptible strains. The tablet is administered orally, with dosing tailored according to the severity and type of infection, renal function, and patient-specific factors. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort, as well as central nervous system effects like headache and dizziness. Serious but rare side effects include tendonitis, tendon rupture, and QT interval prolongation. Ciprofloxacin should be used with caution in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones and those with predisposing factors for tendon disorders.
