Omnikacin 500 Injection contains Amikacin sulfate equivalent to 500 mg of Amikacin per vial and is an aminoglycoside antibiotic indicated for the treatment of serious bacterial infections caused by susceptible strains of aerobic Gram-negative bacteria. It is primarily utilized in the management of complicated urinary tract infections, septicemia, lower respiratory tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, and bone and joint infections. Amikacin exerts its bactericidal effect by binding irreversibly to the 30S ribosomal subunit, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis and leading to bacterial cell death. Omnikacin 500 Injection is administered parenterally, typically via intramuscular or intravenous routes, with dosing adjusted based on the severity of infection, renal function, and patient-specific factors. Due to its potential nephrotoxic and ototoxic effects, therapeutic drug monitoring is recommended to optimize efficacy while minimizing toxicity. Caution is advised in patients with pre-existing renal impairment, hearing loss, or neuromuscular disorders.
