Omevag Capsule contains Omeprazole 20mg, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) indicated for the treatment of various acid-related gastrointestinal disorders. Omeprazole acts by selectively inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system located on the gastric parietal cell surface, thereby suppressing gastric acid secretion. This reduction in gastric acidity facilitates the healing of erosive esophagitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and peptic ulcer disease, including duodenal and gastric ulcers. Omevag is also effective in the eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection when used in combination with appropriate antibiotics, contributing to the prevention of ulcer recurrence. Additionally, it is employed in the management of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, a condition characterized by hypersecretion of gastric acid. The capsule formulation ensures targeted delivery and optimal bioavailability. Omevag is generally well tolerated; however, potential adverse effects include headache, abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea. Long-term use should be monitored due to risks such as vitamin B12 deficiency and bone fractures. Omevag should be used under medical supervision, with dosage adjustments based on clinical response and patient condition. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to omeprazole or other PPIs.
