Oflokem OZ Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Ofloxacin 200 mg and Ornidazole 500 mg, indicated for the treatment of mixed bacterial and protozoal infections. Ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, leading to the disruption of DNA replication and transcription in susceptible organisms. Ornidazole, a nitroimidazole derivative, is effective against anaerobic bacteria and protozoa by causing DNA strand breakage and inhibiting nucleic acid synthesis. This synergistic combination is commonly prescribed for infections such as gastrointestinal infections, genitourinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and certain protozoal infections including amoebiasis and giardiasis. Oflokem OZ Tablet should be used under medical supervision, with dosage and duration tailored to the severity and type of infection. Caution is advised in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones or nitroimidazoles, as well as in those with hepatic or renal impairment.
