About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Oflo Ophthalmic Solution contains Ofloxacin 0.3% w/v, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections of the eye. Ofloxacin acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, thereby exerting bactericidal activity against susceptible gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens. This ophthalmic formulation is primarily used to manage bacterial conjunctivitis, keratitis, and other superficial ocular infections caused by susceptible organisms. Oflo Ophthalmic Solution is administered topically, typically instilled as one or two drops into the affected eye(s) every two to four hours initially, with dosing frequency reduced as clinical improvement occurs. The solution is generally well tolerated; however, mild ocular irritation, burning, or stinging upon instillation may occur. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ofloxacin, other quinolones, or any component of the formulation. Caution is advised in patients with a history of hypersensitivity reactions to quinolone antibiotics. Oflo Ophthalmic Solution should be used under medical supervision, and patients are advised to complete the full prescribed course to prevent the development of resistant bacterial strains. Contact lens wear should be avoided during treatment to reduce the risk of contamination and irritation.
