Montevit-LC Tablet is a combination product containing levocetirizine dihydrochloride (5mg) and montelukast sodium (10mg). It is indicated for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis and chronic spontaneous urticaria in adults and children aged 6 years and older. The product works by blocking the actions of histamine and leukotriene, respectively, which are mediators involved in the allergic response. Levocetirizine, a second-generation antihistamine, selectively blocks H1 receptors, reducing histamine-induced responses such as itching, sneezing, and runny nose. Montelukast, a cysteinyl leukotriene receptor antagonist, inhibits the action of leukotriene D4, a potent bronchoconstrictor and vasodilator, thereby reducing inflammation and bronchospasm. The product is available in a tablet form for oral administration and is usually taken once daily. It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component of the product, as well as in those with a history of immediate allergic reactions to aspirin or other NSAIDs. The most common side effects include headache, nausea, and fatigue.
