About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Mikacin 500mg Injection is a sterile, lyophilized powder for reconstitution with sterile water to form a solution for intramuscular or intravenous injection. Each vial contains amikacin sulfate equivalent to 500mg amikacin. Amikacin is a semi-synthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic used in the treatment of Gram-negative infections, including those caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It is also effective against other susceptible Gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Enterobacter spp. Mikacin 500mg Injection is indicated in the treatment of severe infections, including pneumonia, septicemia, and meningitis, as well as in the treatment of infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa in burns, wounds, and respiratory infections. The usual adult dose is 15mg/kg (up to 1g) every 12 hours, with a maximum daily dose of 4g. Treatment should be continued for at least 7-10 days to ensure adequate elimination of the infection. As with all aminoglycosides, Mikacin 500mg Injection should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment, and the risk of ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity should be monitored closely.
