About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Metrogyl-P 2% Ointment is a topical combination product containing metronidazole (2% w/w) and povidone iodine (10% w/w). Metronidazole, a synthetic antibacterial agent, is effective against a wide range of bacteria, including anaerobes and aerobes. Povidone iodine, a broad-spectrum antiseptic, possesses antimicrobial properties, inhibiting the growth of a variety of microorganisms, including Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, fungi, and viruses. The ointment is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate acne, infected wounds, abscesses, and other skin lesions, as well as for the prevention of post-operative wound infections. Metrogyl-P 2% Ointment is also used in the management of pyoderma, folliculitis, and other bacterial skin infections. The product is applied topically to the affected area, up to three times daily, and the duration of treatment is determined by the underlying condition being treated. Adverse reactions are generally mild and self-limiting, although rare cases of allergic contact dermatitis and skin irritation have been reported. As with any medication, patients should be instructed to follow the recommended application schedule and report any unusual symptoms or reactions to their healthcare provider.
