Mega-CV 375 Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Amoxycillin 250 mg and Clavulanic Acid 125 mg, designed to treat a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. Amoxycillin, a beta-lactam antibiotic, inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. However, certain bacteria produce beta-lactamase enzymes that inactivate amoxycillin, reducing its efficacy. Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, protects amoxycillin from enzymatic degradation, thereby extending its antibacterial spectrum. Mega-CV 375 is indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, otitis media, sinusitis, and dental infections caused by susceptible organisms. It is effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including beta-lactamase producing strains. The usual adult dosage varies depending on the severity and type of infection but typically involves oral administration every 8 to 12 hours. Caution is advised in patients with a history of penicillin allergy, hepatic impairment, or mononucleosis. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, and rash.
