About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Maxolid Tablet contains Linezolid 600 mg, an oxazolidinone-class antibiotic effective against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive bacterial infections, including those caused by multi-drug resistant strains such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE). Linezolid acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the 23S ribosomal RNA of the 50S subunit, thereby preventing the formation of the initiation complex essential for bacterial translation. Maxolid is indicated for the treatment of complicated skin and soft tissue infections, community-acquired pneumonia, nosocomial pneumonia, and infections caused by susceptible strains of bacteria where alternative treatments are limited or ineffective. The recommended dosage is typically 600 mg administered orally every 12 hours, with duration depending on the severity and type of infection. Caution is advised in patients with a history of myelosuppression, as prolonged use may cause hematological adverse effects such as thrombocytopenia, anemia, or leukopenia. Additionally, Linezolid is a reversible, non-selective monoamine oxidase inhibitor; therefore, concomitant use with serotonergic or adrenergic agents should be avoided to reduce the risk of serotonin syndrome or hypertensive crisis. Maxolid should be used under strict medical supervision with appropriate monitoring.
