About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Macpod CV Oral Suspension contains Cefpodoxime Proxetil 100 mg and Clavulanic Acid 62.50 mg per dose, combining a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with a beta-lactamase inhibitor to provide broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. Cefpodoxime Proxetil is a prodrug that, upon oral administration, is rapidly converted to the active form cefpodoxime, which inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to cell lysis and death. Clavulanic Acid acts by irreversibly inhibiting beta-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria, thereby restoring the efficacy of cefpodoxime against beta-lactamase-producing strains. Macpod CV is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and otitis media caused by susceptible organisms. The oral suspension formulation facilitates ease of administration, especially in pediatric and geriatric populations. Dosage should be determined based on the severity of infection, patient age, and renal function. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain. Use of Macpod CV should be guided by susceptibility testing and clinical judgment to minimize the development of resistance. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins, penicillins, or beta-lactamase inhibitors.
