About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Lupidium Tablet contains Loperamide 2 mg, an antidiarrheal agent used to manage acute and chronic diarrhea by slowing intestinal motility. Loperamide acts on the opioid receptors in the gut wall, reducing peristalsis and increasing the transit time of intestinal contents, which enhances water and electrolyte absorption. This results in firmer stools and decreased frequency of bowel movements. Lupidium is indicated for symptomatic relief of diarrhea associated with conditions such as gastroenteritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and irritable bowel syndrome. It is also utilized to reduce the volume of discharge in patients with ileostomies. The recommended dose for adults is typically 2 mg after the first loose stool, followed by 1 mg after each subsequent loose stool, not exceeding 8 mg per day. Caution is advised in patients with hepatic impairment, as metabolism of Loperamide may be altered. It is contraindicated in cases of bacterial enterocolitis, pseudomembranous colitis, and abdominal distension. Adverse effects are generally mild and may include constipation, dizziness, and dry mouth. Lupidium should be used under medical supervision, particularly in pediatric populations and during prolonged treatment to avoid potential complications such as toxic megacolon.
