Imodium Capsule contains Loperamide 2mg, an antidiarrheal agent used to manage acute and chronic diarrhea. Loperamide acts on the opioid receptors in the intestinal wall, reducing gastrointestinal motility and increasing the absorption of electrolytes and water, thereby decreasing stool frequency and improving stool consistency. It is indicated for symptomatic relief of diarrhea associated with conditions such as infectious diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, and inflammatory bowel disease, as well as for the control of chronic diarrhea in patients with conditions like short bowel syndrome. Imodium Capsule is administered orally, with dosage adjusted according to the severity of symptoms and patient age. It is generally well tolerated; however, caution is advised in patients with hepatic impairment or those with a history of hypersensitivity to loperamide. Adverse effects may include dizziness, constipation, abdominal cramps, and nausea. Imodium should not be used in cases of bacterial enterocolitis caused by invasive organisms or in patients with acute dysentery characterized by blood in stools and high fever. It is contraindicated in children under two years of age. Patients are advised to maintain adequate hydration during treatment. Use of Imodium Capsule should be under medical supervision to ensure appropriate management of underlying causes of diarrhea.
