About This Medicine
Product description & overview

Lopide Tablet contains Loperamide 2 mg, an antidiarrheal agent used to manage acute and chronic diarrhea. Loperamide acts on the opioid receptors in the intestinal wall, reducing gastrointestinal motility and increasing the absorption of fluids and electrolytes, thereby decreasing stool frequency and improving stool consistency. Lopide is indicated for symptomatic relief of nonspecific diarrhea, including traveler's diarrhea, and diarrhea associated with inflammatory bowel disease or irritable bowel syndrome. The recommended adult dose is typically 2 mg initially, followed by 1 mg after each loose stool, not exceeding 8 mg per day without medical supervision. Caution is advised in patients with hepatic impairment, as metabolism of Loperamide may be affected. Lopide is contraindicated in cases of bacterial enterocolitis caused by invasive organisms, pseudomembranous colitis associated with antibiotic use, and in patients with known hypersensitivity to Loperamide. Adverse effects are generally mild and may include dizziness, constipation, and abdominal discomfort. It is important to maintain adequate hydration during treatment. Lopide should be used under medical guidance, especially in pediatric, elderly, or immunocompromised patients. Prompt medical evaluation is recommended if diarrhea persists beyond 48 hours or is accompanied by fever or blood in stools.
