Lizomed Dry Syrup contains Linezolid 100mg/5ml, an oxazolidinone class antibiotic effective against a wide range of Gram-positive bacterial infections, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE). It is indicated for the treatment of complicated skin and soft tissue infections, community-acquired pneumonia, and other infections caused by susceptible strains. Upon reconstitution, Lizomed Dry Syrup provides a palatable oral suspension suitable for pediatric patients who have difficulty swallowing tablets. Linezolid acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the 23S ribosomal RNA of the 50S subunit, thereby preventing the formation of the initiation complex essential for bacterial translation. The pharmacokinetics of Linezolid allow for excellent oral bioavailability, ensuring effective systemic concentrations. Dosage should be tailored according to the severity of infection, patient age, and renal function, with close monitoring for potential adverse effects such as myelosuppression, peripheral neuropathy, and serotonin syndrome when used concomitantly with serotonergic agents.
