About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Levoflox 250 Tablet contains Levofloxacin 250 mg, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and uncomplicated bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. Levofloxacin acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, thereby exerting a bactericidal effect. The tablet is administered orally and is well absorbed, achieving high tissue penetration and sustained plasma concentrations. Dosage should be individualized based on the severity of infection, renal function, and patient response, with caution advised in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, dizziness, and photosensitivity. Serious but rare side effects include tendonitis, tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, and central nervous system effects. Levoflox 250 should be used with caution in elderly patients and those with predisposing factors for QT prolongation. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Levofloxacin or other quinolones. Adequate hydration is recommended during therapy to prevent crystalluria.
