This mechanism contributes to its efficacy in reducing seizure frequency. Lacoptal is typically administered orally and can be used as monotherapy or adjunctive therapy in adults and pediatric patients aged 4 years and older. The recommended starting dose is usually 50 mg twice daily, with gradual titration based on clinical response and tolerability, up to a maximum dose of 400 mg per day. Common adverse effects include dizziness, headache, nausea, and diplopia, which are generally mild to moderate and transient.
