About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Lovax 600 Tablet contains Oxcarbazepine 600 mg, an anticonvulsant medication primarily indicated for the treatment of epilepsy. It is effective in managing partial seizures with or without secondary generalization in adults and children above the age of 4 years. Oxcarbazepine acts by stabilizing hyperexcited neural membranes, inhibiting repetitive neuronal firing, and reducing the propagation of seizure activity through modulation of voltage-sensitive sodium channels. This results in the suppression of abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Lovax 600 is also used off-label for mood stabilization in bipolar disorder, providing an alternative to traditional mood stabilizers. The tablet should be administered orally, with dosage individualized based on the patient’s clinical response and tolerability. Common adverse effects include dizziness, somnolence, headache, nausea, and hyponatremia, necessitating periodic monitoring of serum sodium levels during therapy. Caution is advised in patients with renal or hepatic impairment, and gradual dose titration is recommended to minimize side effects. Lovax 600 should not be abruptly discontinued to avoid seizure exacerbation. It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to oxcarbazepine or related compounds. Concomitant use with other central nervous system depressants requires careful assessment due to potential additive effects.
