Kofsin-DMR Syrup is a combination medication formulated to provide symptomatic relief from cough and nasal congestion associated with upper respiratory tract infections, allergic rhinitis, and the common cold. Each 5 ml of this syrup contains Phenylephrine (5 mg), a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist that acts as a decongestant by constricting dilated blood vessels in the nasal mucosa, thereby reducing swelling and nasal congestion. It also contains Chlorpheniramine Maleate (2 mg), a first-generation antihistamine that competitively inhibits histamine H1 receptors, alleviating allergic symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes. Additionally, Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide (10 mg) is included as a centrally acting antitussive agent that suppresses the cough reflex by acting on the medullary cough center without causing sedation or respiratory depression. Kofsin-DMR Syrup is indicated for temporary relief of cough, nasal congestion, and allergy-related symptoms. It should be used with caution in patients with hypertension, cardiovascular disease, glaucoma, or hyperthyroidism. The syrup is contraindicated in individuals hypersensitive to any of its components and should not be administered concomitantly with monoamine oxidase inhibitors.
