Kanamac 500 Injection contains Kanamycin sulfate equivalent to 500 mg of Kanamycin per dose and is an aminoglycoside antibiotic used for the treatment of serious bacterial infections caused by susceptible strains of aerobic gram-negative bacilli and certain gram-positive organisms. It is indicated for infections such as septicemia, respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, bone and joint infections, and meningitis when caused by organisms sensitive to Kanamycin. The mechanism of action involves inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, leading to disruption of the bacterial cell membrane and cell death. Kanamac 500 Injection is administered intramuscularly or intravenously under strict aseptic conditions, with dosage and duration tailored according to the severity of infection, renal function, and patient response. Caution is advised in patients with renal impairment, hearing loss, or neuromuscular disorders due to potential nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity. Monitoring of renal function and auditory capacity is recommended during therapy. Kanamycin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to aminoglycosides. Adverse effects may include nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity, vestibular toxicity, and hypersensitivity reactions.
