Joclav 625 Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation containing Amoxycillin 500 mg and Clavulanic Acid 125 mg, designed to treat a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. Amoxycillin, a beta-lactam antibiotic, inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. However, many bacteria produce beta-lactamase enzymes that degrade amoxycillin, rendering it ineffective. Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, protects amoxycillin from enzymatic degradation, thereby extending its antibacterial activity against resistant strains. Joclav 625 is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible organisms, including respiratory tract infections (such as sinusitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and dental infections. It is also effective against certain strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Haemophilus influenzae, and Escherichia coli. The recommended dosage and duration of therapy depend on the severity and type of infection as well as patient-specific factors. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and hypersensitivity reactions. Caution is advised in patients with a history of penicillin allergy or hepatic impairment.
