About This Medicine

Product description & overview

Javaglip-MS 50/500 Tablet is a combination oral antidiabetic medication containing Sitagliptin 50 mg and Metformin 500 mg, indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Sitagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, enhances the incretin system by increasing levels of active glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), thereby improving glycemic control through increased insulin release and decreased glucagon secretion in a glucose-dependent manner. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily acts by reducing hepatic glucose production, improving insulin sensitivity, and enhancing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. The combination of these agents provides complementary mechanisms to achieve better glycemic control than either agent alone. Javaglip-MS 50/500 is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes, particularly in patients inadequately controlled on metformin monotherapy. It is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment, metabolic acidosis, or hypersensitivity to any component. Common adverse effects include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort, while rare but serious risks include lactic acidosis and pancreatitis. Regular monitoring of renal function and glycemic parameters is recommended during therapy to ensure safety and efficacy.
