About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Izra 40 Tablet contains Esomeprazole 40 mg, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used primarily for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Esomeprazole works by selectively inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of gastric parietal cells, thereby suppressing gastric acid secretion. This reduction in acid production promotes healing of acid-related damage to the esophagus and stomach lining, alleviates symptoms such as heartburn, and prevents complications associated with excessive gastric acid secretion. Izra 40 is indicated for short-term treatment of erosive esophagitis and maintenance therapy to prevent relapse. It is also used in combination with antibiotics for eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection to reduce the risk of duodenal ulcer recurrence. The tablet should be taken orally, preferably before meals, with the dosage and duration tailored according to the specific condition and patient response. Common side effects may include headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, though it is generally well tolerated. Caution is advised in patients with liver impairment, and long-term use should be monitored due to potential risks such as vitamin B12 deficiency and bone fractures.
