Ivernol Shampoo contains Ivermectin 0.5% w/v as the active ingredient and is indicated for the treatment of various parasitic infestations of the scalp and hair. Ivermectin is a broad-spectrum antiparasitic agent effective against a range of ectoparasites including lice and mites. The shampoo formulation is designed for topical application, allowing direct contact with the affected area to eradicate parasites and their ova. Ivernol Shampoo acts by binding selectively to glutamate-gated chloride ion channels in the nerve and muscle cells of parasites, causing increased permeability to chloride ions, hyperpolarization, paralysis, and eventual death of the parasites. This product is suitable for use in patients with pediculosis capitis (head lice) and other scalp infestations where topical ivermectin is indicated. The shampoo should be applied to wet hair and scalp, left for the recommended duration to ensure adequate exposure, and then thoroughly rinsed off. Repeat treatment may be necessary to eliminate newly hatched parasites. Ivernol Shampoo is generally well tolerated; however, local irritation or hypersensitivity reactions may occur in some individuals.
