Hexapan 40 Tablet contains Pantoprazole 40 mg, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used primarily to treat conditions related to excessive stomach acid production. Pantoprazole works by selectively inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of gastric parietal cells, thereby suppressing gastric acid secretion. This medication is indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and other hypersecretory conditions. Hexapan 40 is also effective in promoting healing of erosive esophagitis and providing symptomatic relief from heartburn and acid regurgitation. The drug is typically administered orally once daily, preferably before meals, and its onset of action generally occurs within a few hours, with effects lasting up to 24 hours. Pantoprazole is well-tolerated, with common side effects including headache, diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain. Long-term use should be monitored due to potential risks such as vitamin B12 deficiency, hypomagnesemia, and increased susceptibility to gastrointestinal infections.
