About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Glura M 50mg/1000mg Tablet is a combination oral antidiabetic medication containing Sitagliptin 50mg and Metformin 1000mg, indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Sitagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, enhances the incretin system by increasing the levels of active incretin hormones, which regulate glucose homeostasis by increasing insulin synthesis and release from pancreatic beta cells and decreasing glucagon secretion from alpha cells. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily acts by reducing hepatic glucose production, decreasing intestinal absorption of glucose, and improving insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. The combination of these agents provides complementary mechanisms to achieve better glycemic control in patients inadequately controlled by diet and exercise alone or by monotherapy. Glura M is typically administered orally, once or twice daily with meals to minimize gastrointestinal side effects. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort, while rare but serious risks include lactic acidosis associated with Metformin. Regular monitoring of renal function, glycemic parameters, and adherence to lifestyle modifications is essential during therapy. This combination therapy should be used under medical supervision, considering contraindications and potential drug interactions.
