Glimser-P 2 Tablet SR is a combination oral hypoglycemic agent containing Glimepiride (2 mg), Metformin (500 mg), and Pioglitazone (15 mg), formulated for sustained release to optimize glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea, stimulates pancreatic beta-cell insulin secretion, thereby reducing blood glucose levels. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily decreases hepatic glucose production and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity, enhancing glucose uptake by muscle tissues. Pioglitazone, a thiazolidinedione, acts as an insulin sensitizer by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ), improving insulin sensitivity in adipose tissue, muscle, and the liver.
