Glimsentro-PG2 Tablet SR is a combination oral antidiabetic medication containing Glimepiride (2mg), Metformin (500mg), and Pioglitazone (15mg), formulated to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea class agent, stimulates pancreatic beta-cell insulin secretion, thereby reducing blood glucose levels. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily decreases hepatic glucose production and enhances peripheral insulin sensitivity, contributing to improved glucose uptake and utilization. Pioglitazone, a thiazolidinedione, acts as an insulin sensitizer by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ), which modulates the transcription of insulin-responsive genes involved in glucose and lipid metabolism. The sustained-release (SR) formulation ensures a gradual release of active ingredients, promoting stable plasma concentrations and reducing dosing frequency, thereby improving patient compliance.
