Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea class drug, stimulates pancreatic beta cells to enhance insulin secretion, thereby improving glycemic control. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily acts by decreasing hepatic glucose production, improving peripheral glucose uptake, and enhancing insulin sensitivity.
