About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Zoster Cream contains Acyclovir 5% w/w, an antiviral agent indicated for the topical treatment of herpes zoster (shingles) infections. Acyclovir is a synthetic nucleoside analogue that inhibits viral DNA synthesis by selectively targeting the viral DNA polymerase enzyme, thereby preventing viral replication and spread. Zoster Cream is applied directly to the affected skin areas to reduce the severity and duration of symptoms associated with herpes zoster, including pain, inflammation, and the formation of vesicular lesions. Clinical studies have demonstrated that early initiation of treatment with Acyclovir cream can accelerate lesion healing and decrease viral shedding. The cream is intended for external use only and should be applied in a thin layer to the affected area five times daily for 7 to 10 days or as directed by a healthcare professional. Patients should avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes, and wash hands thoroughly after application. Zoster Cream is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to Acyclovir or any component of the formulation. Caution is advised in patients with impaired renal function or those using concurrent nephrotoxic agents. Adverse effects are generally mild and may include local irritation, redness, or itching at the application site.
