Fluconazole works by inhibiting the fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme 14α-demethylase, which is essential for converting lanosterol to ergosterol, a critical component of the fungal cell membrane. Disruption of ergosterol synthesis results in increased membrane permeability and ultimately fungal cell death. Zocon 100 DT is effective against infections caused by Candida species, including oropharyngeal, esophageal, and systemic candidiasis, as well as cryptococcal meningitis. It is also used for the treatment of vaginal candidiasis and certain dermatophytic infections. The tablet formulation is designed for rapid disintegration in the oral cavity, facilitating ease of administration without the need for water, which enhances patient compliance.
