Paroxetine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), functions by increasing serotonin levels in the brain, thereby improving mood and reducing anxiety. Clonazepam, a benzodiazepine, exerts anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, and muscle relaxant effects through potentiation of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) activity, providing rapid relief from acute anxiety and panic attacks. This combination is indicated for patients requiring both long-term antidepressant therapy and short-term management of severe anxiety or panic symptoms. Zaptra LS should be administered under strict medical supervision due to the risk of dependence associated with clonazepam and potential side effects such as sedation, dizziness, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Dosage must be individualized based on clinical response and tolerability, with gradual tapering recommended to minimize withdrawal symptoms. Caution is advised in patients with a history of substance abuse, respiratory insufficiency, or hepatic impairment. Concomitant use with other central nervous system depressants should be avoided.
