Oxymetazoline is a selective alpha-adrenergic agonist that acts on the alpha-1 adrenergic receptors in the nasal mucosa, causing vasoconstriction of the dilated blood vessels. This vasoconstriction reduces mucosal edema and nasal congestion, facilitating easier breathing through the nasal passages. Oxyvil P Nasal Drop provides rapid onset of action, typically within minutes, and its effects may last for up to 12 hours. It is intended for short-term use, generally not exceeding 3 to 5 consecutive days, to avoid the risk of rebound congestion or rhinitis medicamentosa. The product is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to oxymetazoline or any component of the formulation. Caution is advised in patients with hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, hyperthyroidism, or diabetes, as systemic absorption may lead to adverse effects such as increased blood pressure or tachycardia.
