Ovanac-Plus Tablet contains Acetylcysteine 600mg, a mucolytic agent used primarily to reduce the viscosity of mucus in respiratory tract disorders. It acts by breaking down disulfide bonds in mucoproteins, thereby liquefying thick and tenacious secretions, facilitating easier expectoration. This medication is indicated for the management of conditions characterized by excessive or thickened mucus such as chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis, and bronchiectasis. Additionally, Acetylcysteine serves as an antidote in acetaminophen (paracetamol) overdose by replenishing intracellular glutathione stores, thus preventing hepatic injury. Ovanac-Plus is administered orally, with dosage tailored according to the severity of the condition and patient response. It is generally well tolerated; however, some patients may experience adverse effects including gastrointestinal disturbances like nausea, vomiting, and rarely, hypersensitivity reactions. Caution is advised in patients with asthma or a history of bronchospasm. Concomitant use with antitussives is not recommended as it may impair mucus clearance. Adequate hydration is encouraged to enhance mucolytic efficacy. Ovanac-Plus should be used under medical supervision, and patients should report any unusual symptoms promptly. It is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to Acetylcysteine or any tablet excipients.
