About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Ocuheel Ophthalmic Gel contains Ganciclovir 0.15% w/w, an antiviral agent indicated for the treatment of herpetic keratitis caused by herpes simplex virus infections. Ganciclovir is a synthetic nucleoside analogue that inhibits viral DNA replication by selectively targeting viral DNA polymerase, thereby preventing viral proliferation within ocular tissues. Ocuheel Ophthalmic Gel is formulated for topical ocular application, providing sustained drug release and enhanced corneal penetration, which facilitates effective antiviral activity at the site of infection. This formulation is particularly useful in managing epithelial keratitis and dendritic ulcers, promoting corneal healing and reducing the risk of complications such as stromal keratitis or vision impairment. The gel base ensures prolonged contact time with the corneal surface, improving therapeutic outcomes compared to conventional eye drops. Ocuheel is generally well tolerated; however, mild ocular irritation, redness, or discomfort may occur transiently upon instillation. It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to ganciclovir or any component of the formulation. Use during pregnancy and lactation should be under medical supervision. Proper administration and adherence to prescribed dosing schedules are essential to maximize efficacy and minimize resistance development. Ocuheel Ophthalmic Gel should be stored as per recommended conditions to maintain stability and potency.
