Nusar-AM 5 Tablet is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Losartan 50 mg and Amlodipine 5 mg. Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist that selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, thereby inhibiting vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that inhibits calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, resulting in peripheral arterial vasodilation and decreased systemic vascular resistance. The synergistic action of these two agents effectively lowers blood pressure in patients with hypertension, reducing the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke, myocardial infarction, and heart failure. Nusar-AM 5 is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension, particularly in patients who require combination therapy to achieve optimal blood pressure control. It may also be used in patients with left ventricular hypertrophy or diabetic nephropathy as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. The medication should be administered once daily, with or without food, and dosage adjustments should be individualized based on patient response and tolerability. Common adverse effects include dizziness, headache, peripheral edema, and fatigue. Monitoring of renal function and electrolytes is recommended during therapy.
