About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Minilip EZ 40mg/10mg Tablet is a fixed-dose combination product containing atorvastatin (40mg) and ezetimibe (10mg). It is indicated for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, including heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. Atorvastatin, a statin, inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme involved in cholesterol synthesis, thereby reducing low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and triglycerides. Ezetimibe, a cholesterol absorption inhibitor, selectively inhibits the absorption of dietary cholesterol in the small intestine, thereby reducing LDL cholesterol. The combination of atorvastatin and ezetimibe has been shown to have a greater LDL cholesterol-lowering effect compared to monotherapy with either agent. Minilip EZ is contraindicated in patients with liver disease, pregnancy, or lactation. It is also contraindicated in patients taking cyclosporine or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors. The most common adverse reactions include headache, pain, and muscle weakness. Minilip EZ should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment, as the ezetimibe component may accumulate in these patients. The recommended starting dose is 40mg/10mg daily, with the option to titrate to 80mg/20mg daily if needed.
