About This Medicine
Product description & overview
Metosartan CH 50 Tablet ER is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Chlorthalidone (12.5 mg), Metoprolol Succinate (50 mg), and Telmisartan (40 mg), formulated for extended release to provide sustained blood pressure control. Chlorthalidone, a thiazide-like diuretic, promotes natriuresis and diuresis, reducing plasma volume and peripheral vascular resistance. Metoprolol Succinate, a cardioselective beta-1 adrenergic receptor blocker, decreases heart rate, myocardial contractility, and cardiac output, thereby lowering blood pressure and reducing myocardial oxygen demand. Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), inhibits the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, leading to vasodilation, decreased aldosterone secretion, and reduced sodium and water retention. The combined pharmacological actions of these agents provide complementary mechanisms to effectively manage hypertension, improve cardiovascular outcomes, and reduce the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and heart failure. Metosartan CH 50 Tablet ER is indicated for patients requiring multiple antihypertensive agents for optimal blood pressure control. It should be used under medical supervision with monitoring of renal function, electrolytes, and blood pressure. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to components, severe hepatic impairment, and pregnancy. Adverse effects may include hypotension, electrolyte imbalances, bradycardia, and dizziness.
