Melamet Cream is a topical formulation containing Hydroquinone (2% w/w), Mometasone Furoate (0.1% w/w), and Tretinoin (0.025% w/w), indicated for the treatment of hyperpigmentation disorders such as melasma, chloasma, and other pigmentary abnormalities. Hydroquinone acts as a skin-lightening agent by inhibiting tyrosinase, an enzyme critical in melanin synthesis, thereby reducing excessive pigmentation. Mometasone Furoate, a potent corticosteroid, provides anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects, helping to alleviate inflammation and erythema associated with pigmentary conditions. Tretinoin, a retinoid, promotes epidermal cell turnover and enhances the penetration of hydroquinone, facilitating more effective depigmentation. Melamet Cream should be applied topically once daily, preferably at night, to clean, dry skin, avoiding sensitive areas such as eyes and mucous membranes. Due to the presence of corticosteroids, prolonged use should be avoided to minimize potential adverse effects including skin atrophy, telangiectasia, and steroid-induced dermatitis. Patients are advised to use sunscreen and limit sun exposure during treatment to prevent further pigmentation. This combination therapy offers a synergistic approach for effective management of stubborn hyperpigmentation, but should be used under medical supervision to ensure safety and optimal outcomes.
